What You Can Bring Across the Ukrainian Border Into the EU in 2026

Published 11 June 2026 · AlexTransfer

What is the green corridor at the border

The green corridor is a customs lane for travelers who aren't carrying anything that needs to be declared. If your belongings fall within the allowed limits, you pass through without extra paperwork or explanations.

Many passengers' biggest fear is "what if something gets confiscated at customs." In reality the rules are simple, and if you know the limits in advance there won't be any unpleasant surprises. Below we cover what you can bring across the Ukrainian border into the EU, and in what quantities.

And straight away, good news for first-time travelers: Ukrainian citizens don't need a visa to enter Lithuania. Visa-free travel applies — up to 90 days with a biometric passport. The rules change from time to time, so check the current requirements before your trip, or simply ask our dispatcher.

How much currency you can take out of Ukraine

You can carry cash up to €10,000 per person without declaring it. The equivalent in any currency counts together: hryvnia, dollars and euros are all added up.

The limit applies to each passenger individually. So a family of two adults can carry up to €20,000 between them. If the amount is higher, it must be declared — in that case it's best to check the procedure in advance so you don't hold yourself or others up at the border.

Alcohol and tobacco: limits per person

Only passengers 18 and older may carry alcohol and tobacco. Without declaring, you're allowed to bring:

  • 1 L of spirits
  • 2 L of wine
  • 5 L of beer
  • tobacco: 3 packs of cigarettes, OR 50 cigars, OR 250 g of tobacco — pick one

Food: meat and dairy can't be brought into the EU

You can bring food for personal consumption worth roughly €50–100. But there's one rule that causes the most problems at customs.

Meat and dairy products cannot be brought into the EU. Sausage, salo (cured pork fat), hard cheese, butter, condensed milk — all of it will be confiscated at the border, even in factory packaging. The only exception is baby food, up to 2 kg.

So it's best to leave homemade gifts containing meat or dairy at home. It's a shame, but this EU rule applies to everyone without exception. If you're unsure about a specific product, ask the dispatcher before you leave.

Medicine for the trip: what you can bring

You can carry medication for personal use — bring as much as you need for the duration of your stay abroad.

Potent medications require a doctor's prescription. Keep it with the medicine so you can show it at the border if asked. This is standard practice, and questions rarely come up if you have a prescription.

What's prohibited from entering the EU

Here's a short list of what definitely won't make it across the border:

  • meat and dairy products (except baby food up to 2 kg)
  • alcohol and tobacco above the allowed limits
  • alcohol and cigarettes in the luggage of passengers under 18
  • cash over €10,000 per person without a declaration
  • potent medication without a doctor's prescription

How AlexTransfer helps passengers at the border

We drive passengers from Ukraine to Lithuania every day — from Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro and Kyiv, via Poland, to Kaunas, Vilnius, Šiauliai and Klaipėda. Our drivers cross the border constantly and know exactly what the inspection looks like in practice.

Before departure we'll tell you what's worth bringing and what's better left at home, so you don't have to part with anything at customs. Two drivers work every trip, so we travel without overnight stops. The journey usually takes a day to a day and a half, depending on the border queues.

We pick you up from your address in Ukraine and deliver you to the door in Lithuania. Our Mercedes Sprinter minibuses have Wi-Fi, a TV with movies, tea, coffee and phone chargers. We also deliver parcels along the same routes, hand to hand.
